9 Useful Packing Tips That Can Help You When You Are Moving House

Top-9-packing-hacks-to-help-you-move-house

Moving house can become much easier with these top-rated packing hacks from Ark Relocation, experienced movers in Milton Keynes.

1.) Pack Efficiently

Using what is around your home already can help you to save when it comes to packaging materials. Wrap breakable items such as glassware in socks or something similar and then pack them in your shoes. You can also thin pillows to pad boxes containing breakable items and use blankets or sheets to provide a protective layer to your furniture.

2.) Keep Your Cables Neat And Tidy

If you keep old toilet-roll tubes, you can use these to keep your cables together. When storing cables for your move, label each one before storing them in toilet-rolls tubes. Position the label over the top. When you pack them into a box, place the tubes neatly together facing upwards.

3.) Take Photographs Of Cables And Leads

Wires, leads, and cables are prone to tangling, and it is not always easy to remember the way they went. To solve this common problem, take photographs of all your cables before you unplug them from different types of electrical equipment such as game consoles or TVs. This will make it easier to plug everything back in once you reach your new house.

4.) Protect Your Mattresses

Beds will pick up dirt and dust when moving them. To stop your mattresses from picking up grime use a fitted sheet on either side. It will be much easier to wash the sheets afterward than to try and clean your mattresses.

5.) Be Mindful Of The Small Things

Some of your furniture might have to be disassembled in order to move it. To make reassembly easier and faster, store screws or any other small fittings in sandwich bags, label them clearly, and then tape the bag securely to your furniture.

6.) Create Your Own Assembly Instructions

Most of us have made the mistake of throwing out instructions, only to realise we will need them again when we move. Sarah suggests that you take photos step-by-step as you are dismantling an item, so you can follow this in reverse when you need to reassemble it.

7.) Be Smart In The Kitchen

The kitchen is usually the biggest job when it comes to moving. Here are some tips that can make your moving day a little bit easier:

  • Wrap your cutlery tray along with its contents in either bubble wrap or cling film.
  • Fill pans and pots with condiments, followed by taping on the lids.
  • Wrap sharp objects in newspaper and then store them in oven gloves.
  • Remove the lids off jars and bottles that have already been opened, and then use cling film to reseal the items which will help to prevent leakages.

8.) Protect Yourself From Injuries

You should always carry everything safely to prevent injuries or back pain. Pack light and smaller items into big boxes, and heavy and large items into smaller containers or boxes. Light but large boxes will be much simpler to carry, especially when you cut holes on either side and then fold the flaps upward to make handles.

9.) Turn Your Furniture Into Storage Boxes

If a cupboard with drawers and the contents that it contains is still light enough to carry, rather leave everything inside, but make sure you use tape to keep the drawers closed during the move.
